WhatsApp is developing a new feature that enables file sharing without an internet connection similar to Apple's AirDrop and Google's Nearby Share.
This offline feature first noticed by WABetaInfo in January aims to allow users to share documents, videos and photos without using mobile data. Initially tested on Android it is now being extended to iOS devices.
On Android it utilizes the Quick Share function while iOS uses a QR code scanning method. This feature is especially useful for transferring large files beyond WhatsApp's 2GB limit or in areas with poor connectivity.
It also conserves mobile data and is expected to include end to end encryption for security. Although still in development this feature promises to enhance WhatsApp's functionality by offering a secure and efficient file sharing option.
Users eagerly await its release which could make WhatsApp even more indispensable for file transfers. Further updates on its availability are anticipated as development progresses.
