Rs 37,000 Crores Recovered from Tax Evaders

The Income Tax Department has cracked down on tax evaders, recovering Rs 37,000 crores in just 20 months from individuals earning high incomes but failing to file their Income Tax Returns (IRs).

The government utilized data analytics, Non-Filer Monitoring System (NMS), and TDS processing to identify and act against defaulters.

Special focus was placed on identifying individuals who made significant luxury purchases, such as gold, jewelry, and diamonds, entirely in cash without filing ITRs. The department carried out thorough investigations to ensure compliance and recover unpaid taxes.
