At the 'ELCIA Tech Summit 2024,' Infosys founder Narayan Murthy expressed skepticism about India's potential to become a global superpower.
He emphasized that while many in India aspire to be a USD 5 to 10 trillion economy the country is significantly behind China in key areas like manufacturing capabilities.
Murthy warned against using ambitious terms like 'hub' and 'global leader' as he believes China is far more advanced and established.
He pointed out that China with a GDP of around USD 17 trillion is approximately six times larger than India's GDP which stands at about USD 3 trillion.
Murthy also noted that China's manufacturing industry dominates global markets making it unrealistic to compare India's progress to China's.
Additionally he touched upon the impact of artificial intelligence on the workforce, arguing that human creativity will continue to open new avenues despite technological advancements.
His comments suggest a need for realistic expectations and strategic planning to improve India's economic and industrial sectors.
