The wave of layoffs in the tech sector continues, with Meta, the parent company of Facebook, once again gearing up for job cuts. Layoffs, which began during the pandemic due to economic uncertainty, have persisted, with companies now citing cost-cutting measures due to the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) as a reason for these decisions. Meta plans to lay off employees in multiple stages, affecting teams across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Reality Labs.
Though Meta has not disclosed the exact number of employees affected, reports suggest that various departments, including recruitment and legal operations, will be impacted. This latest round of layoffs adds to the company's history of significant job cuts. In 2022, Meta laid off 11,000 employees, followed by two rounds of cuts last year, totaling approximately 10,000 workers. The news of yet another round of layoffs is causing concern among tech workers, with reports indicating that affected employees have already been informed.
Meta stated that these layoffs are part of efforts to improve the company's overall efficiency.
