India: World's 2nd Largest 5G Mobile Market

India has become the world’s second largest 5G mobile market crossing the United States as per a recent report. Global 5G handset shipments increased by 20% in early 2024 with Apple leading the market holding over 25% of the total share. 

The popularity of iPhone 15 and 14 models contributed to this growth as per a survey. India’s success in the 5G market is due to the strong sales of low priced and medium priced 5G phones from brands like Xiaomi, Vivo and Samsung. Samsung holds the second largest global share with over 21%. 

Both Apple and Samsung dominate the top 10 5G models. 5G adoption is growing worldwide particularly in emerging markets. The Asia Pacific region leads the market with 63% of new 5G shipments.

Growth is also seen in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Research indicates the continued expansion of 5G networks and affordable handsets will further boost market growth especially in India.
