The largest OTT merger in India has been completed. JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar have officially merged, and their content is now available on the new app, "Jio Hotstar." This app is now available for download starting today.
For now, both JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar will continue to operate. Users who already have subscriptions to these apps can continue using them and will be redirected to the content on the "Jio Hotstar" app.
New users, however, will need to subscribe directly through "Jio Hotstar." Currently, the app offers free access to content, but subscription options will be introduced soon.
With the merger of these two major companies, users now have the opportunity to access all the content on a single platform. There’s no need to search for where IPL matches will be streamed anymore. Additionally, there’s no need for separate subscriptions for Marvel movies or Game of Thrones.
At present, "Jio Hotstar" offers 3 lakh hours of free entertainment. With the latest merger, the app has reached 500 million users, though the exact number will be clarified once fake accounts are removed. New subscription plans on "Jio Hotstar" start at Rs 149 for 3 months.
