Thailand Reviews Visa-Free Entry: Curbing Misuse

Thailand’s popular visa-free policy is under government review due to rising concerns about misuse. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has asked key ministries to reassess the rules, aiming to balance tourism promotion with tighter control over illegal work and overstays. Some foreign visitors have reportedly used the visa-free entry to run businesses like restaurants or tour services without permits.

Currently, travellers from 93 countries can stay up to 60 days without a visa. However, this may change as tourism operators also support a policy update to stop unfair competition from unlicensed foreign-run businesses.

Starting May 1, 2025, all international visitors must complete a Digital Arrival Card before entry. This will replace the paper form and speed up immigration checks. It also helps track visitor data more effectively and integrates with e-visa systems.

Travellers should follow official updates to avoid disruptions when entering Thailand.
