In Pune's Kalyani Nagar on May 19, a 17 year old drunk driver in a Porsche killed two IT professionals and narrowly missed an auto rickshaw driver named Ameen.
Ameen described how three visibly drunk boys in the car emerged after the crash trying to downplay the incident and offering to pay for damages.
The car was speeding over 200 kmph and after the crash one boy briefly fled but returned before the police arrived and detained them.
Ameen confirmed there was no separate driver as claimed by the accused's family.
The Pune Regional Transport Office canceled the Porsche's temporary registration and the case took a political turn when Dr. Vinayak Kale of Sassoon General Hospital was sent on leave after revealing political pressure in appointing Dr. Ajay Taware.
This led to a blame game between Kale and Maharashtra's medical education minister.
The 17 year old's mother Shivani Agarwal has become unreachable amid rumors her blood sample was swapped with her son's for testing.
Many say she is absconding as she is also part of crime by swapping her blood sample to save her son.
The Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena has called for protection for Dr. Taware who allegedly possesses sensitive information about the case.
