Playback Singer On Sexual Abusers In Carnatic Music

There has been unrest among the majority of Carnatic musicians in recent days.

TM Krishna received the Sangita Kalanidhi award this week and expressed gratitude with a social media post on March 18. He also stated that he is slated to participate the Music Conference 2024. But this has not been well-received by other Carnatic musicians.

The reason for their discontent is that TM Krishna has publicly expressed views against Sanatana Dharma, Ayodhya, Sri Rama, and other related topics in some occasions earlier, leading to criticism of his award.

But Playback singer Chinmayi Sripada, also a popular dubbing artist in Tamil and Telugu, has come out in support of TM Krishna.

Congratulating him on receiving the award, Chinmayi Sripada questioned the detractors of TM Krishna on X and wrote, “I have not seen such an impassioned thread when scores of Carnatic Music students spoke about sexual abuse and harassment by multiple Carnatic musicians in 2018."

Chinmayi gained national popularity when she spoke out against Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu, accusing him of sexual abuse.
