Uttar Pradesh minister Sanjay Nishad faced an attack while attending a wedding in Mohammadpur Kathar village.
The incident occurred when a group had a tiff with him deliberately, as per Sanjay Nishad. The situation escalated leading to an attack on him.
Nishad after sustaining injuries including a bloody nose was taken to a hospital. He accused the attackers of belonging to the Yadav community and claimed ongoing attempts to incite caste conflicts since his arrival.
"While I was waiting for the jaimala ceremony, some people from behind started making disrespectful remarks about my MP son Pravin Nishad and the Nishad party. I thought they might be from our community and I could explain things to them. We brought those people forward and asked them to talk to the MP when he arrived. They asked me, 'You're the minister, what have you done?'" he explained.
The minister also alleged that when he asked them to talk decently, they attacked him.
"My glasses broke, and I was hit on the nose ... They were Yadavs. I won't take names. There were around 20-25 people. Since I came here, people have been trying to incite caste conflicts," Mr Nishad said.
Police registered a case against six individuals and detained four including Raghavendra Yadav, Jai Prakash Yadav, Digvijay Yadav, and Abhishek Yadav.
Nishad's son, Praveen Nishad, a Bharatiya Janata Party MP, condemned the attack as a ploy by the opposition to disrupt BJP's growing popularity. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya assured action against the attackers and emphasized zero tolerance for hooliganism.
