India's Silence Implies Support To Russia?

India abstained from voting on a UN General Assembly resolution demanding Russia cease its aggression against Ukraine and withdraw its forces from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

The resolution was adopted with 99 votes in favor, nine against, and 60 abstentions.

Countries abstaining included India, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Nepal, Pakistan, and South Africa. Belarus, Cuba, North Korea, Russia, and Syria voted against it.

Titled "Safety and security of nuclear facilities of Ukraine," the resolution called for Russia to stop its aggression and withdraw military forces from Ukraine, especially from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.

It emphasized the need for Russia to return the plant to Ukrainian control and to cease attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure which pose a risk of nuclear incidents.

Introduced by Ukraine and backed by over 50 countries including France, Germany and the U.S., the resolution also requested Russia to allow the International Atomic Energy Agency full access to the plant.

Russia's representative criticized the resolution saying it was politicized and escalated the conflict.
