Actor and self-proclaimed film critic Kamaal R Khan known as KRK has been booked by Uttar Pradesh police for derogatory remarks against Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) chief Mayawati.
The action follows KRK's controversial tweet suggesting Mayawati should focus on cleaning toilets.
SP Sagar Jain of Deoband police station confirmed that KRK faces charges under several sections of the Indian Penal Code including 500, 509 and the SC/ST Act following a complaint by BSP workers.
KRK's inflammatory posts on his X handle included calling Mayawati a "corrupt politician" and making disparaging remarks about her role and the BSP.
KRK has not yet issued an official statement regarding the matter. Interestingly KRK’s brother, Majid Ali, who previously ran unsuccessfully for the Lok Sabha on a BSP ticket has distanced himself from KRK stating they have had no contact for 15 years.
This incident is not KRK's first brush with the law over his social media comments.
He was previously arrested at the Mumbai airport and jailed for derogatory tweets targeting celebrities and public figures.
