Advocate Adesh Bansode also the Maharashtra secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, was booked by the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) police for sharing a YouTube video by Dhruv Rathee criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The incident occurred on May 20 during the 5th phase of polling, when Bansode shared the video titled "Mind of a Dictator" in a WhatsApp group for the Bar Association of Vasai, urging members to watch it before voting.
A fellow lawyer filed a complaint leading the MBVV police to register an FIR on May 21. The FIR stated that the video violated the Commissioner of Police's prohibitory orders alleging it contained false claims about candidates and aimed to influence voters.
Commissioner Madhukar Pandey had issued these orders to ensure smooth election proceedings from May 18 to May 20.
Bansode argued that the FIR was illegal and claimed that proper legal procedures were not followed under Section 188 of the IPC.
However Senior Police Inspector Raju Mane asserted that all protocols were adhered to emphasizing that the shared video was against PM Modi.
