Archaeologists have discovered the world's oldest ostrich nest in Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district dating back 41000 years.
The international team including experts from Vadodara University, Germany, Australia and the US found over 900 ostrich eggs during an excavation at a fossil rich site.
Assistant Professor Devara Anilkumar from MSU's Department of Archaeology highlighted the significance of this find in understanding the extinction of megafaunal species in India.
He noted that the presence of nearly 3500 ostrich eggshell fragments in a compact area confirms the historical presence of ostriches in Southern India and marks the world's oldest known ostrich nest.
This colossal nest built over 40000 years ago gives many insights into the behavior and habitat of prehistoric ostriches in India and beyond.
This proves to be the oldest Ostrich fossil in the world.
